Restaurants
Camellia Grill (626 South Carrollton Avenue, Uptown) — Camellia Grill is a casual, cheap diner on Carrollton and is accessible by the St. Charles streetcar line. It is a New Orleans staple due to the bar stool seating, the personality of the servers, and the view of the food being prepared.
Dat Dog (5030 Freret St., Uptown) — Dat Dog is a colorful hot dog restaurant with a fun-loving staff and affordable food less than a mile from campus on Freret Street. It also has two other locations on Magazine and Frenchman.
The Milk Bar (710 South Carrollton Avenue, Uptown) — The Milk Bar serves po-boys, salads, and delicious milkshakes. It is accessible by the St. Charles Streetcar line and is great for grabbing a quick meal with friends.
Creole Creamery (4924 Prytania Street, Uptown) — Creole Creamery is a local favorite ice cream shop with an extensive menu of flavors and the nearly impossible Tchoupitoulous challenge.
Reginelli’s (5961 Magazine Street, Uptown) — Reginelli’s is one of the best delivery pizza options uptown. With Fresh ingredients and a diverse menu, it is definitely a number to save in your phone.
Superior Seafood (4338 St. Charles Avenue, Uptown) — Superior Seafood is great for business dinners or dates. They have happy hour specials on food as well as drinks. It is accessible by the St. Charles streetcar line.
Commander’s Palace (1403 Washington Avenue, Uptown) — This is a great restaurant to go to if you’re having a family dinner or a nice date night. They have a variety of delicious options for entrees and desserts. It is a short walk from the St. Charles streetcar line.
Parks
Audubon Park — Right across St. Charles from campus, Audubon is a staple for Loyola students.
The Botanical Gardens — Located in the heart of City Park, the Botanical Gardens are a great place to visit when you just need to get away from it all.
Palmer Park — Located on Carrollton and accessible by the St. Charles Streetcar line, this 5.6-acre park is a relaxing getaway that’s not too far from campus. Every month, Palmer Park features the Palmer Park Arts Market, which includes craftsmen, artisans, and yummy New Orleans Food.
Museums
New Orleans Museum of Art — Despite turning 100 in 2011, the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) is still a staple for New Orleans Citizens. Located in City Park, it houses 4,000 years of art in 46 galleries, and admission is only $8 for students. It’s open every day except Monday.
The National World War II Museum — This museum traces the U.S.’s involvement in World War II and honors the Americans who served in it. With a student discount that brings admission down to just $14.50, this is a must-see for Loyola Students during their time in New Orleans.
Ogden Museum of Southern Art — This museum houses the largest collection of Southern Art, and it is open everyday except Tuesday. Admission is only $11 for students.
Other Attractions
Audubon Zoo Aquarium — The Zoo ranks among the country’s best, and is a short walk from campus through Audubon Park. At $20 per person, this zoo is a great place to spend a Sunday and unwind.
Audubon Aquarium — The Aquarium is state-of-the-art, featuring 15,000 water creatures. At $25 per person, this is something every Loyola student should see at least once.
Mardi Gras World — Take a day to see how the Mardi Gras floats are created, view the costumes of the maskers, and take a full tour. Tickets are $19.95 for adults.
Whitney Plantation —Whitney Plantation is the only plantation museum in Louisiana with a focus on slavery. With a discounted price of $17 for students, you will find historically enriching information alongside beautiful views. It is open every day but Thursday between 9:30 and 4:30.
